Thembeka is 38 years old and takes care of her husband who is not working and their two children. Life was difficult before Woza Moya because there was no one working, other than the occasional few jobs doing washing for neighbors. It was so difficult, sometimes they would sleep without have anything to eat.
Thembeka began making sock monkeys in October 2013 and it changed her life. She was able to build her house and support her family. Her children are healthy and her community recognizes her.
She enjoys everything about making the sock monkeys. It keeps her busy and was surprised to find out that she could make something with her hands. She says, “My monkeys were ugly before but now it is much better.”
